New regulations regarding plastic packaging

According to the sources published on www.europarl.europa.eu , the total amount of packaging in the European Union has increased from 66 million tonnes in 2009 to 84 million tonnes in 2021.

In 2021, each person in Europe generated approximately 188.7 kg of packaging waste. If we do not take appropriate action, this figure could rise to 209 kg per person in 2030.

Members of the European Parliament voted on regulations that are intended to solve the problem of the constantly growing amount of waste. The regulations will also optimise the rules that apply in the internal market and stimulate the circular economy The EU has also set targets for the minimum content of secondary raw materials in plastic packaging and the recycling of an appropriate amount of packaging waste.

We can wait for further EU regulations and decisions, or, we can start our own campaign today to protect the environment from excessive packaging, especially plastic packaging.

How to do it? Here are a few simple tips:

– look for products with the maximum content of recycled raw materials (regranulates) in plastic;

– reuse the same packaging;

– buy plastic packaging from proven manufacturers who are able to reliably confirm the amount of recyclate (PCR) in plastic;

– use reusable packaging; –

 plan your purchases wisely and assess each time whether we need so many packages (bags, sacks, etc.);

– segregate waste.

Our environment is in our hands. Let’s consciously take care of its condition and cleanliness. Let’s not introduce new plastic into the environment.
